Der künstlerische Lebenlauf des österreichischen Malers Martin Metzger streckt sich über 40 Jahre, vielfältige Schaffensphasen, unzähligen Ausstellungen und Vernissagen und mehreren Standorten.
Von Wien bis Kitzbühel sind die Einflüsse der Wiener Moderne und der österreichischen Landschaftsmalerei fest im Werk verankert, ohne dass der persönliche Stil des Künstlers verloren geht. Ein oft wiederkehrender Einfluss kommt aus der klassischen Musik, wie zum Beispiel Mozarts Zauberflöte, welche benutzt wird um eine spannende Kombination der beiden Kunstformen zu erzeugen.
Auffallend ist die starke Bandbreite der oftmals sehr persönlichen Portraits. Mal lustig, mal komisch, dann wieder erotisch, düster, traurig oder mystisch bildet Martin Metzgers Kunst eine Brücke der klassischen Malerei in das 21. Jahrhundert, die in Österreich ihresgleichen sucht.

Martin Metzger, born in 1970, grown up in Kitzbühel – the enormous love to the mountains has its roots by the very early start with skiing and the wish to go down the famous “Streif” racing track and also the view from his window to the Kitzbüheler Horn. This was the first subject for drawing. Later on portraits and cartoons got very important. In 1984 – first orders by a newspaper for political cartoons. In 1985 he changed to a grammar school for arts in Vienna. This year also he started his career as an artist with 3 exhibitions. The year after the interesting and love to the fine arts got a new point of view. The second half of 1986 was determined by portraits and the whole figure. 1986 – First Oil-paintings. From 1987 very close co-operation with the Austro-hungarian painter Oscar von Asboth, a popular artist of airbrush.
Martin Metzgers style is always starting with a fine line not on purpose getting a picture with water or oilcolours escorted by the music W.A. Mozart. The oil paintings are all produced in the technique “a la prima”. Since the beginning of the 90ies he is planning and building the frames to the pictures by himself. Also in this part of his career a lot of exhibitions in Vienna at famous places and around Vienna in old castles. Established by the style of his art a lot of orders for portraits and nudes and motifs for landscapes followed. In 1994 he got the leaving certificate by the Vienna Art School. Then he re-moved to the northern side of Austria named Waldviertel – to an old farmers house in Rappolz, a very small village.
Impressed by the rough and original countryside he produced a lot of paintings. From 1990 on pictures of Kitzbühel and the mountains. Today there exist around 200. Totally he painted about 1000 pictures from 1986 to 2011. Since the year 2000 exhibitions in Kitzbühel and surrounding area (historical house “Schwarzer Adler”, Jochberg; mountain-restaurant “Steinbergkogel”; mountains museum Kitzbühel; Hotel Licht; Kitzbühel’s Stamperl).
Since 1985 there have been over 100 exhibitions. Since 2007 a new “Streifbild” is presented every year, a section of the famous racing track in Kitzbühel.
